Thomas Johnson
Thomas Johnson was born in Calvert County, Maryland. He became a lawyer and served in the Maryland Colonial Assembly. He was integral in the fight against the Stamp Act in 1765. While a member of the Continental Congress, Thomas Johnson nominated George Washington to be the Commander in Chief of the Continental army. In 1776, he served as the Commander of the Maryland militia. Thomas Johnson served as the first governor of Maryland from 1777-1779. Thomas Johnson also served in the U.S. Supreme Court from 1791-1793.
