Items to
Discuss
Fundraising
- Eat Ins
at the various restaurants was discussed and the concern for the lack of
attendance. Brian shared that a lot of things were going on in school that
could have created the lack of attendance. Conversation over the amount of
Eat Ins was discussed. Lise highlighted the remaining future Eat Ins and
the need for student/family attendance at the events in order to continue
this venture as a fundraiser. The decision was made to postpone Mama
Lucia’s until a possible date in January. Lise will talk with Joy about
changing the date. Debbie Thackston and Kelly McCrary volunteered to get a
contention of people to attend the event in January. Lise reminded everyone about the need to
continue to save receipts from Glory Days every time you go to the restaurant.
Brian said he would be sure that teachers were more aware of the Eat Ins
so that they also can be talking them up in the classroom vs. students
just hearing about them on the announcements.
- Lise
proposed that Arbonne and Candlelight are also other fundraisers that
individuals can do for Safe and Sane.
- Mini Golf Tourney was discussed. The hope
for more student participation was discussed which led into discussion on
the Bowl-a-Thon
- Sue
Bloom updated everyone on the progress she has made so far with the Bowl a
thon. Terrace Lanes is willing to host us on Feb. 24th between the hours
of 1:00-4:00. Publicity for the event will be made in school right after New
Year to get the kids excited about participating. Sue shared the flyer
that will be given out to the students in order for them to get pledges
for the event. There was discussion regarding ways to get the kids involved
and invested in the event that would lead to more participation. Sue is
working on a possible car or other big prize to give away for the winner
with the highest pledges. There was also discussion regarding other items
that would act as incentives such as computers. Pledges/donations will
need to be in by Friday Feb 22. More details to come. Thinking that
businesses will play a big role in this event there was discussion
regarding soliciting businesses for pledges. Incentives for the businesses
contributing were discussed such as a banner with the business name put
somewhere around the school. Sue will talk with Marty regarding where to
hang the banner.
- Bumper
stickers were discussed advertising Safe and Sane at T.J. High with the
proceeds going to Safe and Sane. Sue will get prices.
- The Basket
Bingo suggestion was investigated in which we have been turned down by
major organizations that normally do Basket Bingo. Discussion on finding a
place to do the basket bingo and cost of doing one was discussed. Audrey
will look Junior Fire Hall and report back next meeting.
- We will
be selling Italian Ice from The Meadows Frozen Custard at Homecoming and
will sell 200 pieces. Spread the word!
Committees
and Volunteers:
- Lise
reminded everyone about Western theme for the event. Diane Bill will
supply the hay bales. Please let Diane know if anyone wants one as part of
their decorations for their committee. Diane will reserve.
- Food
Theresa Hentgen and Lynn Thacker are chairing this committee. There will
be a meeting next Tuesday, Nov. 13 at 7:00 at Lynn Thacker’s house. Please
feel free to attend.
- Greg
Baird in charge of security proposed that we have some kind of
identification for parents and others that come in to Safe and Sane.
Debbie Thackston brought up the need to have a set of walkie talkies
available for those setting up for Safe and Sane before & during
commencement. Also the need for someone to be the “overseer” of the set up
for Safe and Sane that can answer any questions that come up while senior
parents are at commencement.
Need to begin
recruitment of junior parents!
- Fundraising/Donations
Audrey Smith’s church, Locust Grove is donating frames for the Certificates
of Appreciation that we give for business donations.
Ideas and
Suggestions
- Ideas
for other possible fundraisers were discussed in order to bring in more
income. The possibility of doing a Silent Auction during one of the big basketball
games was discussed in place of the Basket Bingo. Lauren Lipps will check
with Marty Tarr about doing this.
- The idea
of having a Safe and Sane donation jar at home games was discussed. Liz
Foit will talk with Marty regarding a donation jar at each home basketball
game.
- Debbie
Thackston discussed the idea of selling Italian Ice at home swim meets.
Debbie will check into this.
Other Items
of Interest
We
are still in need of a volunteer coordinator, and someone to coordinate a clean
up committee. There was discussion about having a separate clean up committee
that would come at 5:00a.m.and clean up.
Meeting
was adjourned. Next meeting December 5,
2007.
